Commissioner John A. Kinnaird

John is the owner of R. S. Kinnaird Memorials, a small family owned business established in 1963 by his father Robert S. Kinnaird.  His daughter Heather and wife Karen help keep things running smoothly at this third generation business.   John and his wife Karen have four grown children, 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way.  He has always had an interest in serving the Thurmont community starting as a Boy Scout, then as a member and officer of the Thurmont Jaycees, he also served as a District, Regional and State Officer of the Maryland Jaycees, he was active in Thurmont’s Downtown Business Association, has served as a volunteer on the Media Commission, he also served as a member and Chairman of the Thurmont Planning and Zoning Commission, he volunteers as web master for the town website,  and served as Chairman of the Thurmont EDC and ThurmontFirst Main Street.  He is especially proud to have played a part in the successful application process for Thurmont’s Main Street Program and proudly serves as an active member of Thurmont Economic Development Committee and ThurmontFirst Main Street.
