Mayor Martin A. Burns

Martin Allen Burns, President,
 Board Of Commissioners (Mayor) 2001-2005
Mayor Burns was born and raised in Munroe Falls, Ohio a small town the size of Thurmont. He graduated from Stow High School in 1984 and attended the University of Akron. In 1985 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps (USMC). His tours of duty included: Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., and Camp David, the Presidential Retreat. Honorably discharged in April 1989, he was soon employed by Holly Hills Country Club until 1991. Mayor Burns was employed by Vitro Corporation's Electronic Engineering Department from 1991-1993. Mayor Burns was hired by the Federal Government in March 1993 and served with the Chief of Naval Operations, Special Programs division. In 1997, Mayor Burns was promoted to his current position as the Deputy Director, Headquarters United States Marine Corps, Special Programs Division. In this position, he is responsible for the Management, Oversight, and Security for Department of the Navy programs worldwide. Mayor Burns is married to Suzanne, a 33-year resident of Thurmont. They have one son and one daughter.
