Thurmont is proud to be a participant in the
Monocacy & Catoctin Watershed Alliance.
Working along with Frederick County and other municipalities we have the following goals for water quality in Thurmont and Frederick County:

Pollution Prevention
Public outreach and education
Assessment of current watershed conditions
Support of efforts for improvement and protection where needed.

This program was founded under a NPDES Permit from the Environmental Protection Agency. NPDES stands for National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System. The permit deals primarily with non-point source pollution, which is pollution that runs off of parking lots, fields, lawns, roads, and other impervious surfaces when it rains. Visit the links below for more information about the Monocacy Catoctin Watershed Alliance.
