Memorial Day Service - May 30, 2009

Residents of Thurmont gathered in Memorial Park on May 30, 2009 to celebrate Memorial Day by honoring the memory of those who have served to protect our freedom. The large gathering watched with respect as local organizations placed wreaths of remembrance around the World War I Memorial.

The weather cooperated and gave us a beautiful weekend and everyone who attended enjoyed all the displays, food, ice cream, demonstrations and the entertainment!

A large crowd took advantage of the great weather and family entertainment at the annual 50’s & 60’s Family Fun Day. The kids games attracted many youngsters and they enjoyed the fun and prizes. The car show had over 50 registered vehicles as well as an additional 30 or so that arrived later in the day. The GHC members served delicious food and drink, there was free water melon for everyone and many other tasty treats. The Elower Dance Studio entertained the crowd followed by the hula-hoop contest, baked goods walk and the cup cake eating event. The day was capped off with an evening of music by the ever popular Big Cam and the Lifters! Thanks to all the volunteers, the members of the Guardian Hose Company, Boy Scout Troop 270, and a special Thank You to Wayne and Jill Hooper for all their hard work!

Thurmont Senior Citizens Senior Prom
The Thurmont Lions Club and C. Hutson Designs hosted the 2009 Senior Prom for the
Senior Citizens of Thurmont on May 22, 2009. The event was held at the Senior’s Center with 60 Seniors in attendance. It was an evening of music, dancing, and socializing with friends and neighbors and light refreshments gave everyone the opportunity to sit and chat. Many Seniors spent the evening on the dance floor enjoying the music provided by Ed Hutson and the entertaining jokes and comments by Bob Lookingbill.
