Important Information about the Nixle Notification System
The Thurmont Police Department has reactivated its service with Nixle’s Notification System. The Department previously terminated use of this service due to the unanticipated costs associated with Nixle. Nixle is once again free to the Public Safety Sector. Nixle is a community information service that alerts you to public safety threats and community events via web, email, and cell phone.
Please log in and reactivate your account or create a new account at nixle.com Effective January 1, 2012, all Thurmont Police Department’s Community Alert System messages will be posted to Nixle. The Department will; however, maintain its current CAS email distribution list should any unforeseen changes arise in the future.We appreciate your understanding regarding these changes.

Catoctin Heights Neighborhood Watch
The Thurmont Police Department is looking for Volunteers for the positions of Neighborhood Watch Coordinator and Block Captains for the Catoctin Heights Neighborhood. Interested persons should contact Chief Eyler at 301-271-0905, ext. 103 for further details. Must be a resident of Catoctin Heights.

An Important Notice from the Thurmont Police Department :
On December 20, 2010 the Mayor and Board of Commissioners for the Town of Thurmont approved a Tip Reward Program to be administered by the Thurmont Police Department.  This program offers up to $1,000 to citizens who report valuable information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) committing criminal acts in Thurmont.  The Thurmont Police Department is pleased to announce the implementation of this program on this date.  This program enhances the Community Policing objectives initiated by Chief Eyler and continuously performed by the officers of the Thurmont Police Department. Anyone who would like to report helpful information concerning criminal activity is encouraged to call the Thurmont Police Department at 301-271-0905.

Please keep the Food Bank and Clothes Closet in mind as we enter the coldest part of the year.  Your contribution to the these local organizations can help provide warm clothes and much needed nourishment for many local families.

Snow and Ice Removal
When wintery weather hits be sure that your sidewalks are cleared of snow and ice. Read Chapter 84 - 61 of the Municipal Code so you understand the requirements for snow and ice removal.

 Be sure to read the following information regarding
Yard Sales in the Town of Thurmont:

Residents are permitted 4 yard sales at one location per calendar year .  Yard sales during Colorfest require a permit and are not counted as one of the 4 permitted yard sales per calendar year.  Yard Sales are to be conducted between the hours of 7:00 a. m. and 6:00  p. m.  No signs are to be posted on Town property, traffic control signs, street signs, poles, posts, buildings or other structures.
 All signs are to be removed by 9 p.m. the last day of the yard sale.

The Thurmont Police Department is launching a new Community Information Service designed to deliver important and timely information to residents in our area using the latest technology. Residents of Thurmont can now take advantage of Nixle!  Nixle is a community information service that alerts you to public safety threats and community events via web, email, and cell phone.  Sign up at www.nixle.com and click on the link to Sign Up Now at top right hand portion of screen. Effective June 1, 2010, Nixle will take the place of Thurmont’s existing Community Alert System (CAS) launched in July 2009.

Town meetings are held Monday nights at 7:00pm in the meeting room of the town office.

Donations of nonperishable items for the Food Bank may be dropped off at
 the Town Office Monday - Friday 8:00am-4:00pm.

The Thurmont Police Department is introducing its
Bicycle Registration Program. We are currently working on
creating a master database of bicycles in our Town in an effort
to curb the number of lost, stolen, and unclaimed bicycles
reported to our Police Department.

You can obtain a physical copy of the bicycle registration form from our office. Otherwise, feel free to submit your registration online by clicking the Online Bike Registration icon.
After submission, you will receive a confirmation letter with a registration sticker
to be placed on your bicycle. If you have questions or concerns regarding this program,
please contact our department at 301-271-0905.
