Distracted Driving Campaign
The month of April has been selected as the Distracted Driving Awareness/Enforcement Campaign. This is a statewide campaign and all law enforcement agencies are participating to assist with reducing the number of collisions and injuries as a result of distracted driving. During every traffic stop, officers will be disseminating educational material to drivers. Police can stop and ticket drivers for using a handheld cell phone. Drivers will face fines (including court costs) of:
$83 first offense
$140 second offense
$160 third offense
Drivers can also be ticketed for writing, sending or reading a text or electronic message while driving. The fine is:
$70 and 1 point
Please assist law enforcement with this important campaign, and adhere to the laws, as traffic safety and awareness is our top priority.
