Plans Being Made to Implement Audible Warning System In Thurmont To Alert Residents of Emergencies

Home Posted on August 20, 2025

The Town of Thurmont, in conjunction with the Thurmont Police Dept., Frederick County Emergency Management, and the Guardian Hose Company, is working on plans to implement an audible warning system in Thurmont to alert residents of weather emergencies or other critical news.  The recent tragic flooding events in Texas has brought the need for this audible alert system to the top of our list of priorities.  Logistical meetings are ongoing, and a plan of action is expected to be in place in the upcoming months.  The first step in this process is to make sure you are signed up for our Emergency Alert System.  All critical messages about weather emergencies, power outages, street closures, etc. are broadcast to this system.  To sign up, go to: www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/Alert. Emergency broadcasts specific to Thurmont residents are sent to everyone signed up for “Town of Thurmont”. You can also sign up for several different weather emergency alerts from the same site. If you need assistance in signing up, feel free to contact the Municipal Offices at (301)-271-7313. We also plan to hold several public outreach events in the community to encourage everyone to sign up.
